Technical Officer (Electrical)

We are looking for a Technical Officer with significant experience within the Electrical industry to join our Energy Safety team in Auckland. The Energy Safety team is committed to ensuring the safe supply and use of electricity and gas. It works with industry to promote high safety and quality standards in networks, installations and products.

Our Energy Safety Team's focus is on regulating electricity and gas safety throughout New Zealand.  We oversee the safety and supply quality requirements of the Electricity Act 1992 and the Gas Act 1992 and are responsible for developing and applying internationally accepted standards for New Zealand's electricity and gas safety and supply quality.  This role has a significant impact on electrical and gas safety through interventions which change industry and public behaviour.

We are looking for individuals with strong electrical knowledge and industry experience to work as part of our small team of technical officers and advisors, who enforce, advise on, investigate, audit, and ensure compliance with the energy safety and supply quality frameworks established by legislation, Standards and Codes of Practice.

The successful candidate will have:

• A tertiary or professional qualification in Electrical trade or related occupation and extensive relevant industry experience
• High technical knowledge and a good understanding of industry issues and the wider stakeholder network
• Ability and initiative to recognise where safety outcomes could be achieved.
• Sound knowledge of the administration of regulatory frameworks including enforcement and compliance mechanisms
• Ability to self-manage work portfolios and work well under pressure
• Ability to work alone and as part of a wider team
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to interpret and administer legislative requirements, Codes and Standards
• Ability to write technical reports in “plain English”
• Investigation and auditing experience
• Practical compliance management experience is preferred
