We are looking for someone who has a proven track record in leading and managing serious and complex investigations.
About the role
As Deputy Area Manager Investigations (Area 4) you would cover the Christchurch, Dunedin, Nelson and Invercargill area (travel to all these locations will be part of the role). Ideally you would be based in either our Christchurch or Dunedin office, however for the right person we are open to considering being based in the other two locations.
This is a permanent position to support the Leadership positions and functions within the National Specialist Intervention group which is part of the overall operations group within WorkSafe New Zealand (WorkSafe).
As we continue to progress As Deputy Area Manager you will assist the Area Manager: Investigations to deliver an efficient and effective investigations function across the Area and nationally. You will hold specified sign off delegations for prosecutions and contribute as an effective member of the area management team.
In this role, your key responsibilities will be:
- To work closely with the Area Manager in delivering the objectives
- To assist to coordinate, plan, monitor, adjust, and report against progress for the area's work programme
- Working closely with the Investigations Principals and Area Managers to ensure consistency, quality and timeliness of signoffs and the provision of technical expertise to other staff
- Modelling the senior leadership behaviours expected by WorkSafe
- Reporting and communication
- Financial and contract management
- Risk management
- Stakeholder and relationship management
To be successful, you will bring:
- Team leadership experience and ability and enthusiasm for coaching, mentoring, guiding and leading Inspectors and Trainee Inspectors
- Strong collaboration style of work
- A track record in leading and managing high quality, serious and complex investigations in an operational regulatory environment (within a health and safety regulatory agency will be advantageous)
- Sound judgement and decision-making capability and a practised ability to assess risks associated with high-profile cases
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, operational policy, practice frameworks and business processes, and how these should be applied by inspectors and support staff across the respective teams
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or extensive and comparable experience and training
- A HSWA ID showing a certificate of appointment as an Inspector is not essential but could be an advantage

Salary range
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $119,774 to $159,698, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $122,435 to $130,420. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
