About your team / Ko te tīma

The Coronial Services sits alongside the Victim Services Team under the Operational Group. This is a small high performing specialist team that looks after oversight of engagement on behalf of WorkSafe with coronial processes where a fatal workplace incident has occurred. 

Delivering Coronial Services that integrate with frontline operational and organisational delivery, through advice and support, this centralised, coordinated and integrated function, ensures we meet our obligations under the Coroner's Act and the Operational Agreement with the Office of the Chief Coroner and supports improved regulatory outcomes. 

About the role / Ō te tūranga

The Coronial Coordinator is a new role and will be an opportunity to support the team to the next level. The Coronial Coordinator will play a key role within the Coronial Services function, delivering high-quality coordination and administrative support alongside the specialist Senior as Advisors, as part of the team's primary responsibility for all end-to-end coronial processes and communications with Coroners Court Offices on behalf of WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru. This is an 8-month Interagency Secondment or Fixed Term opportunity to 30 June 2026.

The role also provides general secretariat administration when needed including the coordination of internal coronial network meetings, and assistance with Victim and Coronial Services activity and reporting data collation and procedure documentation maintenance.

What You'll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi

  • Be the first point of contact for managing initial coronial information, ensuring accurate communication between WorkSafe's Triage and inspectorate teams, and the Duty Coroner's National Initial Investigation Office (NIIO) for fatal notifications
  • Monitor and triage the Coronial team inbox and register communications
  • Proactively monitor and provide routine intervention decision milestone status update communications to Coroners Offices as required under the Operational Agreement with the Office of the Chief Coroner
  • Support the WorkSafe Fatalities Committee by providing administrative assistance and coronial data updates for external reporting
  • Ensure Coronial Trackers and Atlas are maintained and up-to-date
  • Manage and maintain accurate information, data entry and electronic filing
  • Assist with administration of document and correspondence preparation as required
  • Help organise team events, including training sessions and webinars  

What You'll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu

  • Proven experience providing administrative support to managers and teams, ideally within a legal or court-related environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and risks while continuing to support team needs effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and well prepared to actively participate in coronial briefings
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage time and workload efficiently, ideally with an understanding working under judicial directed timelines  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to suit different internal and external audiences 
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work
  • Proven ability to proactively build strong cross-team and stakeholder working relationships and navigate challenges effectively

Salary range / Awhe utu  

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $72,624 to $94,941, with a midpoint of $80,062. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional too/on top of your base salary.
