About your team / Ko te tīma
The Ministerial Services team sits within the Communications and Government Services unit, which brings together ministerial servicing, performance reporting, and communications. We ensure strong governance, high-quality reporting, and delivery of Crown entity obligations, while managing WorkSafe's brand and external messaging to support strategic priorities.
About the role / Ō te tūranga
The Manager Ministerial Services plays a key role in ensuring WorkSafe meets its ministerial, parliamentary, and public confidence obligations. You'll lead a team that delivers all ministerial servicing and Official Information work for WorkSafe and provide strategic oversight, expert advice and ensure associated risks are managed effectively.
This is an inter-agency secondment opportunity until 30 June 2026, so please note candidates who are currently working for New Zealand government agencies will be considered.
What You'll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi
- Supporting the Head of Communications and Government Services by managing the centralised servicing of all ministerial and Official Information Act processes.
- Provide strategic oversight of ministerial servicing, ensuring the team has a clear purpose and way of working, provides accurate, timely advice, clear processes and ways of working in partnership with others across WorkSafe.
- Build, lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee official correspondence processes, including responses to OIA , ministerial and public requests.
- Develop and implement policies, strategies, and systems that strengthen governance and improve ministerial servicing performance.
- Manage operational risks and drive a risk-aware culture across the team and wider organisation.
- Deliver fit-for-purpose reporting and insights to support organisational performance and accountability.
- Play a key liaison and delivery support role for any Ombudsman enquiries.
What You'll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu
- Exceptional relationship management and organisational influencing skills
- A customer service orientation that is powered up by a passion for the role of official information and ministerial servicing
- Excellent leadership, people management, and interpersonal skill – that include active mentoring of team members, fostering collaboration and team performance.
- Strong analytical ability to assess information, challenge assumptions, and develop practical solutions.
- Proven capability to manage multiple priorities under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
- Political awareness and understanding of risks, with sound knowledge of the New Zealand political system.
- Knowledge of machinery of government practices and demonstrated experience providing a high level of technical advice related to ministerial and machinery of government reporting and processes.
- Exceptional writing skills and experience producing high-quality ministerial correspondence and briefings.

Salary range / Awhe utu
Our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $151,211 to $167,382.
