The Communications and Government Services business unit brings together our performance planning and reporting, ministerial services, and communications functions.
This is to ensure we have appropriate governance frameworks, processes and reporting in place, and deliver our outward-facing deliverables including our accountability reporting, to high and consistent standards.
About the role / Ō te tūranga
As Senior Advisor Ministerial Services, you'll lead the drafting of official correspondence and support responses to Official Information Act requests for WorkSafe and the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety. You'll provide authoritative advice, mentor team members, and step in to lead the team when needed. This role requires strong technical expertise in ministerial processes and the OIA, as well as the ability to build effective relationships across WorkSafe, other agencies, and Ministers' offices.
This is a fixed-term contract until 30 September 2026.
What You'll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi
- Lead the drafting of Ministerial correspondence and ensure responses meet quality and timeliness standards.
- Manage Official Information Act (OIA) requests, including analysis, risk assessment, and preparing accurate responses.
- Provide authoritative advice on ministerial and OIA processes, and develop guidance and training for staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, Ministers' offices, and other agencies.
- Contribute to projects, briefings, and organisational reporting, ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes, and service delivery.
- Act as a mentor and step in to lead the team when required, modelling WorkSafe's values and behaviours.
What You'll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in the public sector.
- Strong understanding of Parliamentary protocols, the Official Information Act 1982, and the Privacy Act 2020.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure.
- Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound judgment, risk awareness, and a solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.

Salary range / Awhe utu
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $94,399 to $123,974, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $94,399 to $104,257. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional too/on top of your base salary.
